Sheddie creates flying saucer - The US Army wants it

The age of the British amateur inventor toiling away in his humble garden shed lives on - and Geoff Hatton is proof of it.

Garden shed windows are £200,000 Church treasure

The northern echo says

A MAN whose garden shed looks more like a mini-church is hoping to return a set of stained-glass windows worth thousands of pounds to public use.

Sid Hogg, 71, who lives in Stockton, rescued the windows from St John's Church, in the town's Durham Road, after he formed a boxing club in the church hall more than 30 years ago.

Russian gangsters giant shed

The torygraph reports with some great pictures of a massive shed/barn/cabin combo.

the say....

For the one-time gangster who built it, it is nothing less than "the eighth wonder of the world". The less charitably disposed dismiss it as a glorified barn, fire hazard and eyesore.

But on one thing everyone agrees: Nikolai Sutyagin's home is certainly different.

Dominating the skyline of Arkhangelsk, a city in Russia's far north-west, it is believed to be the world's tallest wooden house, soaring 13 floors to reach 144ft - about half the size of the tower of Big Ben.

Cracking Idea, Gromit

The Patent Office has got Wallace and Gromoit on board to encourage young inventors.

Nick Park, of course the man behind the two chesse loving characters, say when he was eight years old he'd already decided on his career.

"I really wanted to be an inventor," he says. Inspired by film versions of stories by HG Wells and Jules Verne, he says he planned "to build a time machine and visit the dinosaurs".

Wallace and Gromit, described by the Patent Office as "Britain's foremost inventors", are spearheading the Cracking Ideas initiative, which will invite youngsters to come up with their own inventions.

Wallace, the creator of automated trousers and elaborate knitting machines, follows in the long tradition of "eccentric inventors", says Mr Park.

Of course we have our very own "eccentric inventor" right here on readersheds.co.uk, Lyndon Yorke.

Have any of you sheddies, invented anything in your shed?

Charlotte Hatherley, The bloke from XTC and a shed

Its being reported that foxy Charlotte Hatherley(of course formally from Ash) has co-wrote one track, Dawn Treader, for her new record, with XTC’s Andy Partridge in his garden shed.

she says via the Sunday Times “I was actually sitting there with one of my heroes, and he’s screaming these lyrics at me. He’s been a bit of a big brother actually, similar to Captain Beefheart with PJ Harvey. Just phone calls, you know: ‘Give me a call whenever you like.’ And because he’s a bit of a recluse, he’s a big chatterer.”

Now all I need is to get him to share his shed, and get her to send us a signed photo, anyway both would be cherised.

You may not know it but garden sheds are very popular in the music industry, we have a couple of top artists on the site already, the lovely Polly Paulusma, the genius that is Chris Difford, the shed (from cork) and of course Chocice (the greatest cabaret band in the world)

If you are a Musician or any music making person, and you recorded your latest disk in your shed or your shed was a big influence on you and your music, please Share your shed.

Lovely old sheds to be demolished for the olympics

The observer allotment blog has a piece on the destruction of an allotment in Hackney Wick, which is 'paving the way' for the new olympic thing in London, its a shame.

quoting them

"The Olympics were coming, and a walkway was planned straight through their fertile soil.

The threat seemed reasonably distant; campaigns were planned, and there was fair optimism that the suits would reconsider. The 80 plots had been there for more than 100 years; some growers had tended them for almost half that. The painted huts and greenhouses stand next to wartime shelters, and they all have a weathered elegance about them, a wrecked beauty untouched by artifice or pretence."

Topless wife photo ends German sheddie's pole protest

A German who built a hut at the top of a telecommunications mast to avoid going to prison has been lured down by nude photos of his wife.

Fred Gregor, 45, from Werben, spent ten days in the wooden hut at the top of the 72ft metal aerial to avoid serving 15 months for an internet fraud conviction.

The thing is hes the same age as me, I would love to have a beard like that...

ok he did look a bit like me.....!! but without the mass murderer look on the face (his not mine, i think)!

Jag XJ6 runs on cider apples

A Somerset farmer has converted his Jag so it runs on rotting apple fumes.

Henry Hobhouse, 52, who lives near Castle Cary, packs two underground tanks full of apples and collects the methane gas producted as they rot.

The 3-litre XJ6 saloon now runs on methane and costs around 40p a litre.

Henry says the 145mph car gains 10% in power by running on compressed methane and still returns around 28mpg, more
